Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 10 – 16, 1867

10th Wednesday  fine weather but some cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick & worn out.

11th Thursday  fine growing weather with clouds  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with a cold & down harted with trouble  Miss Lovina Root & a man at Batavia a painter were married, so said.

12th Friday  A fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick with troubles, windy.

13th Saturday  a fine cool hay day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening cae home a 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard lonely & nearly sick with trouble [in margin] S Willson & wife went to Coral.

14th Sunday  A fine pleasant cool airey day with some clouds  I did my choars was at the house all day except going to the office & back I mowed some round the house & choared round the house took a nap at noon & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick with troubles, Mrs Stone went to meeting in forenoon.

15th Monday  fine weather for haying  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick, Resseguie commenced mowing at house.”

16th Tuesday  fine hay weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick & worn out with trouble.”

13th Wednesday  A cold morning thurmometer at 10 degrees below zero in morning  A cold day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard sick & lonely—Sister was nirvas & lightheaded.

14th Thursday  rather a cold day for March  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & lonely.

15th Friday  cool weather for March  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & about sick with a cold.

16th Saturday  cool & spit snow a little cleared off at night cold  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & about sick & lonely.

17th Sunday  A cold windy  morning & day with a flurry of snow on the ground cold tonight  I did my choars & choared round the house all day called at Scovills & Willsons in the morning went to the office in evening & made up the mail came home & called to Willsons came home & went to bed at about 9.

18th Monday  rather a fine cool March day  I did my choars was at the office the most of the day came home  about 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick Sally Munk came in afternoon.

19th Tuesday  rather fine cold March weather  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard & sick, lonely & about discouraged  Sally Munk was here all day & went to Donation in evening [in margin] Donation at Methodist Church.”

6th Wednesday  rather cool March weather  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold & lonely —-.

7th Thursday  A damp muddy day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold & lonely T Galusha & Ed went back to Alabama, Mrs Anna Warren died at Rockford at night.

8th Friday  A muddy day but not cold  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold & lonely—.

9th Saturday  A cloudy damp day & looked like a storm damp & mist in evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick & lonely—Charles Estes called at the store & went to Bliss to stay all night  Mrs Anna Warren was buried at our burying ground today.

10th Sunday  A damp misty day & rained last night & broak a way some in afternoon & grew cold some  I did my choars was at the house all day & evening except to go to the office & fix the mail & called at Willson twice went to bed at about 9 sick & homesick, sister sick [in margin] sister was sick & nurvis & figoty.

11th Monday  rather cold for March  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at about 9 ½ about sick with a cold & lonely.

12th Tuesday  rather cold weather for March  I did my choars was at the office al day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold Sister nurvus & wild.”

27th Wednesday  Muddy damp disagreeable weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

28th Thrusday  A cloudy damp thawey day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold [in margin] Shaffer and Mrs Carthen were married.

March 1st Friday  A damp warm cloudy day grew cold at night & froze I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

2nd Saturday  rather a cold windy day ground frozen hard  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ or 10 nearly sick, the Baptist had a Covenant meeting & 15 went forward to be baptized towmorrow [in margin] H Gould brought me up 2 piggs.

3rd Sunday  A cold day with some flurrys of snow  I did my choars was round home the most of the day choaring round went to the post office about noon called at Willsons  she was sick had Doctor last night came home wrote some & choared round went to office in evening came home & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick  sister sick & nirvus there were some 12 baptised today by Elder Hunt [in margin] sister sick figoty & melanchy.

4th Monday  rather a fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard sick & lonely as death—.

5th Tuesday  rather fine raw weather with a flurry of snow  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ sick & lonely—-.”

4th Friday  rather a fine cloudy day, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick with a cold.

5th Saturday  A cloudy snowey morning with 2 or 3 inches of snow on the ground, cleared off & grew cold towards night & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

6th Sunday  rather a cool cloudy morning but cleared off some in middle of day & was quite pleasant  I did my choars was at home the most of the day a fixing the howel & went to the office twice wrote some in the evening called at Willsons they went to Shermans about 4 came home went to bed about 9 quite sick with a cold.

7th Monday  rather a fine winter day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & about sick with a cold.

8th Tuesday  A fine cloudy day not verry cold  I did my choars was at the office all day etc came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & about sick with cold [in margin] Mr Storm was here ________.”

26th Wednesday rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick.

27th Thursday  fine weather for the season  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  George left & went to Willsons today or tomorrow.

28th Friday  rather a fine cool day  I did my chaors was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  George left & went to Willsons & stayed tonight & Mrs Stone Storm was here.

29th Saturday   pretty fine cold day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick  J K Pollard came out last night went back.

30th Sunday  rather a cold day the coldest morning we have yet had Mercury 8 degrees below zero a verry cloudy evening but more mild  I did my choars was at the house all day & evening called at the office at noon & night sold 3 cans of oysters, choared round the howel & fixed it some went to bed at about 9, tiard & sick [in margin] Jesse Wheaton & Sarah M. Brown were married.

31st Monday  rather a fine cloudy day  I did my chaors was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

1st Tuesday, January 1867  rather a fine pleasant day & evening but cool  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick with a cold  Mrs Stone made a New Years, & had the Willsons & Perrys people & Cowens to dinner they had a fine time.”

19th Wednesday  cloudy & a little snowey  I did my choars went to the office & started to Naperville with Henry B. Fowler about 10 ½ & was appointed gardion for Wm W Wray eat dinner at Hiram Fowlers & got home about 3 to store came home 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

20th Thursday  a fine cloudy day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] Taylor came from Iowa.

21st Friday  A thawey cloudy day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick with a cold.

22nd Saturday A warm thawey day & rained in the evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ bed at 9 ½ sick.

23rd Sunday  A warm damp cloud day the wind changed northerly at night & was more cool  I did my choars was at office about 9 came back choared round banked up my house etc went to Store in evening came home at 6 called at Willsons caught chickens for them wrote some & went to bed 9 sick.

24th Monday  rather a fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ went to bed at 9 ½ about sick.

25th Tuesday  A beautiful day for Christmas but some cool  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  I eat dinner & supper at Willsons S Willsons Jackson Butterfield & their wives were there & Mrs Stone. They went home after dark we had beer [in margin]  I eat supper at Willsons & others Sidwell pushed the door open tonight.”

12th Wednesday  A cold raw day with the roads verry rough bad waggoning  I did my choars was at the office all day and evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick with a  cold.

13th Thursday  A cool raw cloudy day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] Willson halled salt from Winfield both of them.

14th Friday  A cool garden & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick R Willson halled 2 tun of coal.

15th Saturday  A cool raw cloudy day  & began to snow a little in the evening I did my choars was at the at the office all all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  S Willson drew me 1 day coal.

16th Sunday  the snow fell several inches last night & it snowed some amost all day, I did my choars was at home the most of the day  I went to the office 4 times & helped Willson cover the howels with straw wrote some & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick with a cold had been out in the cold the most of the day.

17th Monday  rather a fine day for December  I did my choars was at the office all day & in the evening came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.

18th Tuesday  fine weather for the season  snow & showers  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.”

16th Friday  rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

17th Saturday  A fine cool & some cloudy day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  R B Pollard came home from Iowa  wher Ed Brown was.

18th Sunday  rather a fine morning but cloudy in middle & after part of day & sprinkled at about 2 or 3  I did my choars was round home the most of the day went to the office twice, the last time with Goulds & Whitny  his wife called at Willsons a short time & they went back as it began to sprinkle  Willson & Caroline eat supper here I was at Willsons in evening came home went to bed between 8 & 9 tiard & about sick with a cold Matta Gould stayed overnight.

19th Monday  rather a fine day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard lonely & nearly sick.

20th Tuesday  rather fine weather for Nov  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & lonely.”

26th Friday  A cloudy damp forenoon & rainey afternoon Connel part of forenoon & Pat on __________? I did my choars was at office all day and evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & sick lonely Miller Penny came to Greens with his lady.

27th Saturday  a damp misty day & wet conciderable  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  [in margin] Wm Henner came.

28th Sunday  A rainey morning & damp cloudy day & evening  I did my choars was at home all day & evening except calling to the office twice  Gould came up to Willsons about noon & went home before I went to bed at 9.

29th Monday  rather a fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
