15th Thursday A verry cold morning the murcury stood at 24 degrees below zero in the morning & 8 below at sunset the coldest day we have had, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at about 8 ½ & went to bed at about 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick with a cold.

16th Friday A cold morning the murcury stood at 26 degrees in the thurmometer in the morning not quite as cold through the day as yesterday I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ tiard lonely & sick.

17th Saturday rather more pleasant & grew some more warm I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & lonely [in margin] S Willsons wife came from Coral.

18th Sunday A fine warm pleasant day, thawed & looked like Spring I did my choars was round the hous the most of the day a choaring round went to the office twice in the day time & once in the evening came home & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick with a cold.

19th Monday rather fine winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & nearly sick.

20th Tuesday winter weather I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard lonely & nearly sick.

21st Wednesday rather fine weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed 9 ½ nearly sick.”

16th Thursday A fine pleasant day, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard & lonely Temperance Butlers funeral was at Baptist house & was buried in the burying ground.

28th Thursday  rather a warm cloudy day & evening showered a little, a cloudy evening & rained some during the night  I did my choars was at the office the most of the day & evening went to the house 3 times in the forenoon as Roll was a coming after Caroline he did not come till near 2 oclock  I had some talk with him but of no account, came to the store & went back & took Caroline Wray with him up to Sherman Willsons & then they went to Naperville & got married by Judge Cody about 5 or six oclock in afternoon & stayed to Sherman Willsons over night.

29th Friday  A cloudy damp showerey morning & cloudy disagreeable day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick & as lonely as death & Rolen Willson & Caroline went to McNellys & got her things & went to Wiliams & Barrases etc did not get back until evening to Shermans.

30th Saturday  A pretty fine day & evening, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & sick & lonely  Rollen Willson & Caroline came to my house before daylight & got her things & went to Shermans & started about 7 for Coral.

October 1st Sunday  A fine cool pleasant morning & day & most beautiful evening  I did my choars & started for H Goulds about 9 with Bliss horse & buggy, found Wm McNelly & wife was there, we had a first rate time got a keg of beer, William started home at about 4 and I started a little before 5 & got home at about 6 did my choars & went to bed about 8 in evening lonely & dishartened & discourage  William McNelly bought a span of mairs of Adam Keller.

2nd Monday  rather a fine day & evening  I did my choars was at the store all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick, lonely & dishartened.

3rd Tuesday  rather fine weather for Oct  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & sick, lonesome as death.

24th Sunday  A cloudy damp morning & showrey forenoon & hot, more pleasant & cool in afternoon  I did my choars went to the store & back, got Bliss horse & wagon & started with Caroline for her fathers about 9 but it rained before we got to S Willsons & we stoped & stayed till 11 & came back, I choared round wrote some etc did my choars & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick & lonely as death.

25th Monday  rather a fine warm day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & sick.

26th Tuesday  rather fine weather for the season  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 lonely as death & sick.

27th Wednesday  rather a fine cloudy hot day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 11 sick & lonely as death & all but dead, Roll Willson came from Coral had a letter sent from Wheaton about Caroline & me which caused hard feeling all round & Caroline packed up her things to leave tomorrow, Rol hurt Shermans mair [in margin] Rol Willson came from Coral & hirt Shermans mair Caroline left for good.”

4th Friday A damp showery disagreeable day & night, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick.

5th Saturday A cloudy damp showerey day & night rained hard, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed 9 tiard lonely & sick [in margin] 2 soldiers with 10 horses stayed at John Waddles all night.

6th Sunday A cloudy damp disagreeable day & evening I did my choars went to office about 9 came back & choared round the house cleaned out the celler etc was round the house the most of the day went to bed about 9 sick Rollen Willson went to Wm McNellys & brought Caroline Wray to Sherman Willsons & stayed all night.

7th Monday rather a fine day & they hayed it some I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 about sick Caroline came back from Willsons.

8th Tuesday rather a fine day but cloudy & rained during the night I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] Col Warren went & notified the Supervisors.

9th Wednesday A cloudy rainey day, by showers it came down in torrents, one shower between 12 at noon & in afternoon it rained tremendious hard for about 2 hours it came down in torrents washed Connels potatoes & cabbage down dam to me burst my store celler windows in & filled my store celler ¾ full or more while I was up to dinner everything was fludded the river set up to N. Derry shop, it was the hardest shower I ever saw & the most rain fell in one shower, we had but little wind here, but it blew building down in many places an awful shower I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick [in margin] a tremendis heavey shower all round the country.”

15th Sunday rather a fine morning but grew cold in afternoon I did my choars was at home all day to work a fixing up my backhouse which Sherman Willson tore down I went to office in evening & put up the mail came home & washed the dishes & T Boyd came & brought Mrs Potter home a little before 8 I wrote some & went to bed about 9 or so.

5th Thursday fine weather but did not thaw I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 12 & went to bed, there Col Warren & 8 or 10 more stayed & kep me there late eating oysters etc [in margin] eat oysters at store.

6th Friday fine weather for January I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick.

7th Saturday fine winter weather without snow I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick with a cold etc but—rested very well during the night.

8th Sunday rather a fine day for Jan & thawed but little in the sun & none out of the sun, I did my choars was at the house the most of the day choaring round, H Gould came & went to Carolines & came back about 12 with his wife & Cal & stayed he carried Caroline home & then went home his wife over to Noones while he went up to Cals [in margin] H Gould wife & Caroline Wray were here.

9th Monday rather fine weather for winter I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick.

10th Tuesday fine cool weather for Jan I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 tiard.

25th Sunday A cloudy damp day mist some & snow a little I did my choars went to the office before breckfust, after breckfust, I cleaned out my howels & choared round till noon, then went to Sherman Willsons & Rollen harnessed up & carried me into my timber, we got back at 3 & eat supper & I came home did my choars went to the office about 6 & made up the mail came back wrote some washed my feet & went to bed between 8 & 9 tiard & about sick [in margin] Caroline was at home I went to Sherman Willsons  Anna Jones was married to a Mr. Ugene Mann, of Batavia, Married in Chicago.

“28th Thursday backward disagreeable weather for April. I did my choars was at the office all day & in the evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & lonely.

“29th Friday rather a disagreeable day but some pleasant. I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ by Hoyts & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & downhearted Col. Warren & Aurora Sherman went to McKee & back.

“30th Saturday A rainey morning & forenoon cleared off quite pleasant in afternoon & a fine evening. I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home by Hoyts about 9 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick lonely homesick & downspirited.

“May 1st Sunday A fine pleasant still morning & pleasant day but more windy. I did my choars was at the house the most of the day went to the office & Hoyts after breckfust came back wrote some & went to Sherman Willsons to see about some pigs about 11 came back about two choared round went to the office in evening made up the mail called at Hoyts came home & went to bed about 9 lonely & nearly sick & downhearted, the women went to meeting, Elizabeth & Aurora.
