Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 11 – 17, 1867

11th Wednesday  a cloudy misty morning & day & snowed some in afternoon & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  The Jerrys Pollard & Dady killed my hogs one weighed 357 the 360#.

12th Thursday  A fine day for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day came home before 8 cut up my hogs & went to bed about 11 or after nearly sick and worne out with trouble.

13th Friday  fine winter weather & cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & salted some pork & went to bed at 10 ½.

14th Saturday  A cloudy winter day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 & finished salting my pork & went to bed at about 10 tiard & nearly sick with trouble, Sister is verry worrysome [in margin] Fairbanks had his leg operated on.

15th Sunday  cloudy & snowed a little not verry cold  I did my choars was at the house the most of the day a choaring round went to the office 3 times, was at home in evening wrote some & went to bed about 9 nearly sick & worne out with trouble  Mrs Stone went to meeting at 10 ½ & in the evening H Gould & family were here at supper & Elizer Stone, Rol Willson called.

16th Monday  fine winter weather with a  little snow  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 & went to bed at  9 ½.

17th Tuesday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.”

28th Thursday  A cloudy day & grew cold at night  I did my choars was at the office all day home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick it snowed during the night an inch or two.

29th Friday  A snow squalley morning & forenoon  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 sick.

30th Saturday  A cold cloudy morning, the thurmometer at 3 degrees below zero cold  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 tiard & nearly sick with a cold.

December 1st Sunday  rather a fine day but some cloudy  I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round  Gould came at 2 & then went & found the colts at Galushas came home eat supper did my choars & went to bed at 9 about sick  Ada Bostwick & wife came & L V Resseguie in evening.

2nd Monday  rather fine cold weather  I did my choars was at the office all day & came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & discouraged.

3rd Tuesday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold etc.”

23rd  Saturday  A fine day but some cloudy and a thunder shower in the evening conciderable rain  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly worn out with trouble  Caroline moved her things to Bliss & they stayed at my house over night.

24th Sunday  A damp cloudy foggy day  I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round & fixing fence etc Caroline & Roll was here all day & night  Mrs Stone & Nelson went to Bostwicks.

25th Monday  A cloudy damp day & disagreeable rather muddy  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 nearly sick, Rol & Cal were here till half past 2, when Rol took Caroline to the Junction & Mrs Stone went with them Caroline left the Junction at 4 P.M for her fathers Rol came back & stayed all night.

26th Tuesday  A cloudy disagreeable day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick.”

It’s Fashion Friday again at the Historical Society! If you missed the 2017 Cemetery Walk, you can enjoy some of the stories featured of Well-Dressed Women of Warrenville from local artist Mildred Baldwin’s popular column in the Warrenville Digests here. It was a wonderful night celebrating some of the women who came to call Warrenville home.

25th Friday  A fine day but dry  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & worn out with trouble.

26th Saturday  fine day for Oct  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & worn out with  Horace Potter came here at noon & stayed all night & over Sunday rained drg the night.

27th Sunday  A cloudy misty damp day  I did my choars was at the office about 10 came home and went to picking apples & choared round Gould & wife came here, Cal & Rol came in the evening.

28th Monday  rather fine dry & cool  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worne out with trouble, Sarah Ward went to Wheaton for a short time & some think school will learn.

17th Thursday  A fine hot day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc.

18th Friday  A fine hot dry day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold etc.

19th Saturday  A fine hot dry day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 nearly sick etc [in margin] Caroline & Mrs Stone went to Naperville.

20th Sunday  A fine hot dry day, the ground is verry dry, I did my choars was at the office about 9 & R B Pollard cut my hair  I came home and choar house & choared round picked apples etc was at home all day & went to bed about 9 sick  Abner Stone & Emma came & wrote a letter for Mrs Stone.

21st Monday  rather a fine day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 nearly sick with a _________ Edward Monk & Adda Germain were married this morning at 10 & started to Michigan.

22nd Tuesday  rather fine weather for Oct  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick.”
