Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 17 – 23, 1868

17th Thursday  a fine winter day good sleighing  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick.

18th Friday  A fine day for winter good sleighing but thawed conciderable  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick  Resseguies & Rogers drew wood for me 4 loads each Jerry Dady chopped.

19th Saturday  A fine warm day & thawed fast spoild the sleighing  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out  Mrs Stone came here from Pelhams & stayed overnight  windy night.

20th Sunday  A windy raw day wind blew hard  I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round the house, went to the store in the evening came back after calling at Kenyons & went to bed at 9 sick Mrs Stone & Tom Pelham eat supper here & then went home, Reseguie brought the trunk home after he took the buck boar tonight or tomorrow morning at 5 or 6 oclock  [in margin]  William Lamb took the buck  The Wheaton folks got the Recorders about 150 went down after them.

21st Monday  rather a fine cool day grew cold all day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble, Rolen Willson went to Wheaton with L V Resseguie to start in the evening for Shirms Willsons in Iowa, at 10 tonight [in margin] Rollen Willson started for Iowa to Sherm Willsons the Wheaton folks got the recorders books this morning.

22nd Tuesday  A cold pleasant day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.

23rd Wednesday  fine cold weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.”

29th Wednesday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½  Mrs Jorden came to see sister.

30th Thursday  fine weather & good sleighing  I did my choars was at the office all day came home  8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

31st Friday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  Mrs Jorden came.

February 1st Saturday  A fine day & good sleighing  I did my choars was at the office all day came home 8 ½ 8 went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & discouraged  L V Resseguie drew wood for me from my woods & Connel chopped sled length.

2nd Sunday  A fine day & some cloudy  I did my choars went to office came back choared round the house etc went to bed about 9 sick Mrs Stone went to Bostwicks & Kenyons & Pollards Mrs Jorden came to see Sister.

3rd Monday  A fine cool winter morning  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble  Mrs Mary Manning wife of Theodore Manning died this morning at fifteen minutes past 8, 8 ½ with inflemation on the powels  William Jorden father of Pat Jorden an Irishman died today about 10 or 11 in forenoon.

4th Tuesday  rather a fine day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out  Mrs Jorden was here to see sister.”
