Hiram E. Leonard Diary, May 8 – 14, 1867

8th Wednesday  rather fine weather but cool  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick.

9th Thursday  fine cool weather with squalls  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with a cold  [in margin] Sim Billings second boy was born at the Knox or Harlow house.

10th Friday  A fine day with a cool air I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick.

11th Saturday A fine pleasant warm day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day came home 8 ½ & went to bed at nearly 10 nearly sick with a cold Sister pretty bad.

12th Sunday A fine pleasant morning with a cool north east wind & rained a little about 11 broaken away some about noon  I did my choars went to office for Hammond & fed my cat came back choared round wrote some took a nap was at office in evening came home & went to bed about 9 nearly sick George went up to Williams.

13th Monday fine cool weather for spring  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly worn out with sister.

14th Tuesday cold but pleasant weather  I did my choars was at the office all day nearly sick came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick with a cold & ____ up.”

26th Wednesday  A fine warm day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold  Mrs Knox went to Big Woods to McDonalds  [in margin] Mrs Knox went to the woods was taken sick.

27th Thursday  rather a fine day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick with a cold  Mrs Knox died tonight at about 10.40/at McDonalds at Big Woods was taken unwell Thursday morning.

28th Friday  A fine warm day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed 9 ½ sick with a cold they moved Mrs Knox home to Hudsons.

29th Saturday  A fine warm or hot day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 9 & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with a cold.

30th Sunday  A fine hot day  I did my choars went to the office & back choared round the most of the day & helped draw some corn went to bed at 9  George Sidwell went to Naperville, Mrs Knox was buried today [in margin] Mrs Knox was buried today in forenoon.

October 1st Monday  A fine pleasant day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

2nd Tuesday  A fine day some smokey  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.”

17th Thursday fine hay weather I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick Caroline & Roxa went to Knox.

18th Friday rather fine hay weather I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick, Ezra Batchellor came & stayed with Col Warren all night Roxa went to Sociable & stayed all night at Knoxes.

19th Saturday rather a fine day & evening but a light shower in afternoon and another at night I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick E Batchellor went home to Lyons and H Wyman came out from Chicago.

20th Sunday rather a fine hot day with a shower about 5 & a cloudy evening I did my choars was at home the most of the day went to the office 3 times did my choars & went to bed about 9 tiard & sick, Roxa LeRoy she that was Roxa Coon was here.

21st Monday rather fine weather, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & nearly sick.

22nd Tuesday rather fine weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & sick.

23rd Wednesday A fine day & evening I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick, Caroline Wray & Roxa LeRoy went to Naperville & got some things got back about 3.”

6th Thursday rather a cool windy day & grew more cold all day & frozen dureing the night pretty hard I was at the store all day & evening did my choars came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick with a cold & lonely as death & homesick George O. Potter, his wife Elizabeth, A & Charles their son started this morning for Decorah Iowa to live and make them a home, they left in the stage a little after 8 with Knox.

7th Friday A cold windy & some cloudy day a pretty cold wind with the water & ground frozen some I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard sick & lonely as death.

8th Saturday rather a cold windy day & froze quite hard I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard lonely & sick & homesick.

9th Sunday rather a cool cloudy disagreeable day the ground & water was frozen & we had a few flakes of snow in the morning, I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round went to the office two times & in the evening made up the mail came home & went to bed at 9 lonely & about sick.

10th Monday rather fine weather for April, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening I did my choars was at the office came home at about 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 sick & tiard, Frank Wellman came here from home in Friendship.

11th Tuesday rather weather I did my choars was at the office all day & in the evening came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & lonely.

12th Wednesday rather fine for April I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.”
