Hiram E. Leonard Diary, November 26 – December 2, 1868

26th Thursday  A fine pleasant day & night  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out thanksgiven day we had a chicken for dinner & oysters for supper  Kenyon had John Billings & Sim Billings & their ladies to supper & 3 cans of oysters.

27th Friday  A fine day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.

28th Saturday A fine pleasant day & night  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ or got ready when R B Pollard came to have me go to the office for a letter & he stayed till 11, when I came home & went bed & they to _________.

29th Sunday  A fine day with a cool south wind  I did my choars was at the house the most of the day, went to the store & sold 2 suits clothes choared round the house wrote some & went to the office again in the evening came home & went to bed about 9 nearly sick, Caroline & Eliza went to the concert at Baptist house.

30th Monday  fine weather for Nov  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out [in margin] Mrs Stone left Kenyons.

December 1st Tuesday  fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out [in margin] Mrs Stone came at night.

2nd Wednesday  A fine pleasant day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.”

22nd Thursday  rather fine for Oct  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.

23rd Friday  A fine pleasant day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out [in margin] John Billings came to Sims.

24th Saturday  fine weather for Oct  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble  John Billings & lady left Sim Billings this forenoon for Aurora, they came yesterday.

25th Sunday  A most beautiful warm pleasant day  I did my choars was at the office in morning at noon & night, was round the house the most of the day a choaring etc went to bed about 9 nearly sick  Mrs Stone & Eliza McNelly went to Wheaton with Emma  Stone for her to go to Indiana  Benjamin Hoath came.

26th Monday  rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.

27th Tuesday  fine cold weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.

28th Wednesday  fine cool weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick etc.”

15th Thursday rather cloudy weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.

16th Friday  fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out [in margin] John Billings married to Clarry Holly.

17th Saturday  A fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick & worne out.

18th Sunday  a fine day but some cloudy  I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round went to the office 3 times came home & went to bed at 9 tiard & about sick, H Gould & family were here & Sabins highered man.

19th Monday  rather fine weather for Oct, I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.

20th Tuesday  rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly worne out with trouble.

21st Wednesday  rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day & came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out.”

30th Sunday  rather a fine cloudy day with the ground covered with snow, spit snow in evening, I did my choars was at the office in morning & at Hoyts came home before noon & choared round some etc called at Hoyts in evening came home about 8 & soon went to bed, Wm McNelly came here about noon & went away a little before 4 & David & the rest left soon after for home.  Ashley Carpenter died today at a Mr Carpenters in Scottsville in Kentucky.  Carpenter got there a little before he died & started home with him in afternoon.  John Billings & Cooper came with him to Bowling Green.”
