Hiram E. Leonard Diary, September 17 – 23, 1868

17th Thursday  rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with Sister  Ben & Eliza came back at sunset.

18th Friday  A fine cold morning with a heavey frost  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble.

19th Saturday  rather rainey damp weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble & Sister  Grant & Herick had a squabble today at my store & Grant hurt Herricks nose & made it bleed [in margin] Rol Willson got back.

20th Sunday  rather a cloudy damp day  I did my choars was at the office came back & choared round the house & wrote some was at the office in the evening came home & went to bed at 9, about sick, Car & Eliza went beyond Finlys to get Peneroial came back about one & Mrs Stone had just come, R B Pollard was here in morning for a girle.

21st Monday  rather fine weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  Court set at Naperville.

22nd Tuesday  fine cool weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out, lots went as Jurors  Salsbery poisoned at Wheaton.

23rd Wednesday  Some cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went at 9 ½ sick & worne out, with trouble Daniel Salsbery was poisoned at Platts at Wheaton last night.”
