Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 18 – 24, 1867

18th Wednesday  a fine winter day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½  & went to bed at 9 ½ worne out with trouble.

19th Thursday  fine weather for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick and worne out with my sister & trouble.

20th Friday  A fine pleasant warm day with winter  I did my choars was at the office all day & came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick etc.

21st Saturday  A stormey squalley rainey day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick and worne out with trouble  William Scott died at Griffeths tonight.

22nd Sunday  A pleasant day but very windy  I did my choars went to the office, came back  & choared round the house the most of the day went to the office 4 times wrote some in the evening & went to bed about 9 tiard and about worne out with trouble  P Graves sliped down on the ice & was found senceless near the meeting house & was carried into Mr Hudsons hurd pretty bad.

23rd Monday  fine weather for the season  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick & worne out with trouble  [in margin] George Sidwell came back from Canada.

24th Tuesday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 & went to bed at 9 tiard, sick & worne out with the trouble of Sister.”

11th Wednesday  a cloudy misty morning & day & snowed some in afternoon & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick  The Jerrys Pollard & Dady killed my hogs one weighed 357 the 360#.

12th Thursday  A fine day for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day came home before 8 cut up my hogs & went to bed about 11 or after nearly sick and worne out with trouble.

13th Friday  fine winter weather & cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & salted some pork & went to bed at 10 ½.

14th Saturday  A cloudy winter day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 & finished salting my pork & went to bed at about 10 tiard & nearly sick with trouble, Sister is verry worrysome [in margin] Fairbanks had his leg operated on.

15th Sunday  cloudy & snowed a little not verry cold  I did my choars was at the house the most of the day a choaring round went to the office 3 times, was at home in evening wrote some & went to bed about 9 nearly sick & worne out with trouble  Mrs Stone went to meeting at 10 ½ & in the evening H Gould & family were here at supper & Elizer Stone, Rol Willson called.

16th Monday  fine winter weather with a  little snow  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 & went to bed at  9 ½.

17th Tuesday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.”

4th Wednesday  fine cool winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & dishartened.

5th Thursday  fine for winter & cool  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & discouraged.

6th Friday  A fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick & worne out with trouble of sister got a letter from Caroline.

7th Saturday  fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

8th Sunday  A fine pleasant day with a cool air  I did my choars was at the house all day a choaring round & went to bed at 9 nearly sick & worn out with trouble we had some oysters  Eliza was here [in margin] oysters for supper.

9th Monday  fine with a little snow  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

10th Tuesday  fine weather for Dec but dry  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.”
