Hiram E. Leonard Diary, July 31 – August 6, 1867

31st Wednesday  a pretty fine forenoon, but a verry heavey shower in the afternoon with a heavey wind & some hail & blew a tree over on to my howel, I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 nearly sick with a cold & trouble.

August 1st Thursday  rather a fine day but some cloudy  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at about 10 tiard & nearly sick with trouble etc William Briggs came here from Batavia & went back today.

2nd Friday  rather a fine day for haying  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick with trouble  Mrs Stone came back from Carolines she stayed three 4 days, came back in evening.

3rd Saturday  A fine hot hay day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 about sick  I got a letter from Charles that he would start for here a Monday.

4th Sunday  A fine warm day but some cloudy, I did my choars was at the office about 9 came back & cut a tree & got it off from my stable choared round the house fixed my big pen & turned my calf into the paster with the cow & went to office in the evening came home & went to bed at 9.

5th Monday  A fine pleasant hot day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at about 10 nearly sick & worn out [in margin] C R Leonard started for here.

6th Tuesday  rather fine weather for the season  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly worne out with trouble.”

24th Wednesday  A fine hot day with a fine breeze  I did my choars was at the store till 9 when I got ready to go to Naperville with Sister, started in forenoon & come back & went in afternoon again got home about 6 went to store in evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10, the juror brought sister in as insane  Sam Wrights wife had a daughter today or tonight thurmometer stood at 100, Brooks Austin said to of died this week.

25th Thursday  A fine hot day some cloudy & a sprinkle or too  I did my choars was at the office all day came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick, Recd & put a belt on Sister carried off a load of oats 58 cts.

26th Friday  A fine hay day but airey  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 sick  T W Watson carried off my last load of oats today got 58cts a bushel Ed Brown came here.

27th Saturday  A fine hay day & hot  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick.

28th Sunday  A fine pleasant day but verry windy  I did my choars was at the office after breckfust came back choared round the house & went to the office again & back went to bed about 9, nearly sick R B Pollard got home this morning or in the night  Mrs Stone went to Carolines about 10 [in margin] R B Pollerd got home from Nebraska.

29th Monday  rather fine weather for haying  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with trouble etc.

30th Tuesday  A fine hay day, I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard & sick with trouble, Mrs Stone went up to help Caroline.”

17th Wednesday  fine hay weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick, Resseguie stacked part of a stack of hay nearly my share of half the orchard, he stacked tomorrow.

18th Thursday  a fine day for haying  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 nearly sick Resseguie stacked nearly my share of hay what grew on half of the orchard the rest he mowed.

19th Friday  A cloudy & some showerey day bad hay day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick with trouble  Sister is verry troublesome.

20th Saturday  A fine day for haying  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8-3/4 & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with trouble [in margin] stacked rest of orchard, Col went to Chicago.

21st Sunday  A beautiful warm day clear & pleasant  I did my choars eat breckfust went to office with George about 9 ½ George picked him out pants & vest & we came home & called at Grants a short time came home & choared round the house & went to bed about 9 nearly sick.

22nd Monday  fine hay weather but hot  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick & worn out with trouble.

23rd Tuesday  A fine hot day thurmometer at 100  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick.”

11th Thursday  fine growing weather with clouds  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick with a cold & down harted with trouble  Miss Lovina Root & a man at Batavia a painter were married, so said.

12th Friday  A fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard & nearly sick with troubles, windy.

13th Saturday  a fine cool hay day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening cae home a 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 tiard lonely & nearly sick with trouble [in margin] S Willson & wife went to Coral.

14th Sunday  A fine pleasant cool airey day with some clouds  I did my choars was at the house all day except going to the office & back I mowed some round the house & choared round the house took a nap at noon & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick with troubles, Mrs Stone went to meeting in forenoon.

15th Monday  fine weather for haying  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick, Resseguie commenced mowing at house.”

16th Tuesday  fine hay weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick & worn out with trouble.”

3rd Wednesday  A cloudy damp day with showers  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly worn out with trouble.

4th Thursday rather a warm day & cloudy not verry fine for the 4th I did my choars was at the office came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 nearly sick [in margin] a still Fourth.

5th Friday  rather a cloudy showerey day I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 10 sick & worn out with trouble.

6th Saturday  rather a fine day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ and went to bed at 10 sick & sorrowful.

7th Sunday  rather a fine cool day with some clouds  I did my choars was at the office about 9, came home choared round the house was about sick & went to bed about 10 & lay till near 2, fixed fence some etc  Sister was verry troublesome, Caroline called & eat supper, Mrs Stone went to C Owens  I did my choars & went to bed about 9 sick.
