Hiram E. Leonard Diary, February 27 – March 5, 1867

27th Wednesday  Muddy damp disagreeable weather  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

28th Thrusday  A cloudy damp thawey day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold [in margin] Shaffer and Mrs Carthen were married.

March 1st Friday  A damp warm cloudy day grew cold at night & froze I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

2nd Saturday  rather a cold windy day ground frozen hard  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ or 10 nearly sick, the Baptist had a Covenant meeting & 15 went forward to be baptized towmorrow [in margin] H Gould brought me up 2 piggs.

3rd Sunday  A cold day with some flurrys of snow  I did my choars was round home the most of the day choaring round went to the post office about noon called at Willsons  she was sick had Doctor last night came home wrote some & choared round went to office in evening came home & went to bed at about 9 nearly sick  sister sick & nirvus there were some 12 baptised today by Elder Hunt [in margin] sister sick figoty & melanchy.

4th Monday  rather a fine cool day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard sick & lonely as death—.

5th Tuesday  rather fine raw weather with a flurry of snow  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ sick & lonely—-.”

20th Wednesday  snowed some I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.

21st Thursday  A fine pleasant winter day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick Dutch Saloon widow married [in margin] Quarterly meeting.

22nd Friday  A fine pleasant day  I did my choars was at the office all day came home & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick  Ball at Perrys Tavern [in margin] joined the Methodist class.

23rd Saturday  A fine thawey day grew cold at night  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick with a cold [in margin] sister ________ & ________.

24th Sunday  A fine pleasant cool day  I did my choars was at home till 11 when I went to L Kenyon to see Uncle Daniel, got there at 1 started home at a little before 5 got home about 6 did my choars went to office called at Willsons came home wrote some & went to bed about 10 tiard & about sick  Willson & family went to York Center to Barrus they got home about 8  Sister getting feeble again.

25th Monday  rather fine thawey weather  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold [in margin[ Sister in a ______ turn.

26th Tuesday  A thawey muddy day & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick Sister a getting in to an other nirney turn [in margin] dancing school at Perrys.”

13th Wednesday  a misty damp day & the water getting high the river verry high tonight so it sent up into my celler near 2 feet  I did my choars was at the office all day came home about 8 ½ & went to bed at near 9 ½ nearly sick.

14th Thursday  the river quite high but a falling a little fell near 2 feet during day  I did my choars was at the office all day & came home 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a  cold.

15th Friday  a damp cloudy morning & began to rain at 8 or 9 sprinkled more or less all the forenoon & rained in afternoon & the river raised conciderable was pretty high  I did my choars was at the store all day came home 9 ½ & went to bed at 10 ½ sick with a cold Jerry Dady & Rol Willson killed my pigs in forenoon & I cut them up in evening came home early in evening.

16th Saturday  A cold windy blustering day  like March  I did my choars was at the office all day came home 8-3/4 & went to bed about 10 ½ nearly sick.

17th Sunday  A fine pleasant warm day  I did my choars salted my pork down went to the office a little before 12 came back & choared round the house  cleaned out my pig pen etc was at the office again in evening came home & went to bed about 9 tiard & about sick.

18th Monday  rather fine winter weather  I did my choars was at the store all day came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] meeting continues?

19th Tuesday  rather fine for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.”

6th Wednesday  good sleighing over a foot & half of snow  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick.

7th Thursday  fine winter weather thawed some  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ sick with a cold.

8th Friday  fine winter weather & thawed some grew cold at night   I did my choars was at the office all day etc  I come home 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ about sick with a cold etc.

9th Saturday  A cold morning the murcury stood at 8 degrees below zero in morning a cold day & night  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonely & nearly sick with a  cold, thurmometer below zero at sunset.

10th Sunday  A cold pleasant morning & cold day, clouded up about noon & looked like snow  The mercury stood in the thurmometer at _____ degrees below zero in the morning  I did my choars was at the office about 10 & 1 ½, choared round the house the most of the day & round hog pen & howel  I was at office in evening came home & went to bed about 9 about sick  Protracted meeting yet  R B Pollard got home from Vermont.

11th Monday  rather fine weather for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold.
