Hiram E. Leonard Diary, January 16 – 22, 1867

16th Wednesday  Snowed some & grew cold in afternoon & evening  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ sick with a cold.

17th Thursday  A verry cold morning 10 degrees or more colder than we have had this winter before, the murcory stood at 20 degrees below zero at 8 oclock in morning & conciderable below ______some 12 or 15 degrees  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold on my lungs.

18th Friday  A pretty cold winter day  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a bad cold.

19th Saturday  More moderate & looks like snow  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8-3/4 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick with a  cold.

20th Sunday  A snow squalley blustering day, the wind blew pretty hard from the north east all day & snowed the most of the time  I did my choars was at the house the most of the day went to the office about 10 & back choared round killed 4 chickens or George & I did etc went office in the evening came home & went to bed about 9 nearly sick with a cold [in margin] George H German was married?

21st Monday  rather fine winter weather  I did my chaors was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick with a cold & trouble [in margin] sleighing.

22nd Tuesday  cool but fine for winter  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick with a cold etc.”
