Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 13 – 19, 1865

13th Thursday rather fine weather for the season I did my choars was at the office all day & in evening came home 8 ½ went to bed 9 ½ lonely & sick.

14th Friday A fine pleasant day, I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home 8 ½ went to bed 9 ½ lonely tiard & about sick, President Abraham Lincoln was shot at the theater in Washington about 9 evening by a play actor Booth Seward was stabed.

15th Saturday a fine day for the season I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at about 12 & went to bed nearly sick, Abraham Lincoln died with his wound this morning at 7 oclock.

16th Sunday A fine pleasant day and evening I did my choars was at the house a choaring round until 4 when I went with S Willson to office went to office about 7 & made up the mail came home & went to bed between 8 & 9 tiard lonely and about sick.

17th Monday rather fine cool weather I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ tiard lonely & about sick.

18th Tuesday rather fine cool weather & some cloudy I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & lonely [in margin] Malissa Billings came to work at my house.

19th Wednesday rather cloudy disagreeable weather I did my choars was at the office all day & in the evening came home at 8 ½ & went to bed at 9 ½ nearly sick [in margin] Frank Wellman went to Chicago.”
