Hiram E. Leonard Diary, April 7 – 13, 1864

“7th Thursday muddy backward weather. I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ and went to bed about 9 ½ tiard lonesome & nearly sick.

“8th Friday damp disagreeable weather & backward I did my choars was at the office all day & in the evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & lonesome.

“9th Saturday damp disagreeable weather I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & lonesome—George was expected but did not come.

“10th Sunday rather a fine day but some cloudy, I did my choars was round home the most of the day went to the office & Hoyts, came home & went to bed about 8 ½ tiard & nearly sick & lonesome, George Potter got home about sunrise or a little before stayed at Winfield, he went to bed & they did not get up till near noon, they were about sick Israel Kenyon died tonight about 10 oclock [in margin] I Kenyon died tonight at 10 G Potter got home from Chicago this morning.

“11th Monday A damp disagreeable day & rained several times. I did my choars was at the office all day & in the evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick & lonesome. George & Elizabeth went to Kenyons & stayed all night and tomorrow to funeral.

“12th Tuesday rather more pleasant but disagreeable day to get round I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 ½ nearly sick & lonesome. Israel Kenyon was buryed at big wood today. George & wife came home, near night.

“13th Wednesday rather disagreeable weather for spring. I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ & went to bed about 9 nearly sick & lonely.”
