Civil War Diaries, November 17, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Nov. 17  A gloomy morning opened before us.  We drilled most of the day.  I wrote a letter to Cousins Jimmy & Frankie McKee that took me all day & until 9 oclock in the evening being called away so many times.  I was somewhat disappointed in not getting no mail, have recd but one letter for a week.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

17th Monday  A cool cloudy day & night & roads muddy.  I did my choars was at the office part of forenoon, loaded up with sugar cane & started about one for Naperville got back about 5 went to office in evening came home about 9 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick.  D McNelly came here about noon & brought Miss Munk & another lady to Wades & here in afternoon & left for home about dark.”
