Civil War Diaries, November 10, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Nov. 10  Preparations were made in the morning to start for an unknown destination.  Mr OConnor & Albert Buchanan went down to the cave after water.  When coming back Al had his revolver out sighting it–it went off, the ball passing through his right thumb at the second joint.

We struck our tents & lie on the ground in readiness for two hours & then were ordered to pitch them again.  We did so & after eating our dinner we drilled all the afternoon & recd orders to start tomorrow morning at 7 oclock.

Recd the intelligence of Barnside’s succession over McClellan.”
