Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

Nov. 6  Wrote a letter to Miss SEA went down to “Lost river Cave,” a half mile off, & did my first washing.  It consisted of two shirts one pr of socks & a pr of drawers.  In the afternoon there was a general review of Dumonts division by Gen. Rosencranz.  He is a gallant looking man & a genuine fighting General.  This promotion over Buel is greeted with joy among soldiers generally.”
