Civil War Diaries, November 1, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

Nov. 1  This will be our seventh days journey.  The dried strawberries that my Mother put up for me were consumed yesterday the 31st of Oct.  We went alongside the R.R. for a couple of miles in which time two trains passed us with soldiers abroad.  We paused at noon near some small ponds of water, in one of which a span of horses came near drowning.  We stopped at three Oclock & turned in for the night.  I had a good wash in a stream nearby, wrote a letter Home in the evening, made a P.S. to it in the morning.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

November 1st Saturday  A fine day but looked some like storm mist in evening I did my choars was at office most of day & evening came home a little after 9 & went to bed.  Frank went to Junction to carry butter.”
