Civil War Diaries, October 21, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

Oct. 21  I woke feeling pretty well but soon after breakfast a fever made itself manifest accompanied a head-ache.  I went to Dr. Potter who prescribed rest.  I put on my overcoat wrapped myself in my blanket & after quite an effort started a faint perspiration.  I ate a little supper & lay down to sleep on soft bed of straw.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

21st Tuesday  rather a fine cool day for the season.  I did my choars was at the house all day & evening a choaring and at work went to bed between 9 & 10 nearly sick.”
