Civil War Diaries, October 10, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

Oct. 10  We were sent a regiment on picket duty.  We mistook the road & went about 5 miles to relieve the pickets.  I was posted with the reserve Corps in a pretty valley in a grove near to a rebel plantation, were we had plenty to eat.  It rained during the night & being without tents we got nicely wet so that I got up in the night & made a fire to dry.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

10th Friday  a fine day & evening but grew cold & a frosty night.  I did my choars was a drawing Wm wood drew 5 loads & one of traps & finished up was at store in evening came home at 9 & went to bed at 10.”
