Civil War Diaries, October 8, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Oct. 8  We left camp at Shelbyville at 10 oclock & on until 8 p.m. when we lay down upon the ground to rest for the night.  At 1 oclock a messenger came & reported Dumont at Frankfort engaging the enemy.  We at once started for Frankfort reaching there at day break.  We were a tired regiment.  A brigade of Cavalry passed us on the road.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

8th Wednesday  rather fine weather for Oct.  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 ½ by Hoyts.  Got home at 9 & went to bed at 10 nearly sick, settled with C Noonen & he paid me.”
