Civil War Diaries, October 5, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Oct. 5  Sunday morning we waited some time in camp to recruit.  The boys many of them went out in squads after provisions, & succeeded.  A contraband was brought in.  Strict orders were published prohibiting plunder.  Some horses & mules were brought in previous to order.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

5th Sunday  A quite cool pleasant day with some clouds.  I did my choars went to Hoyts & office came home & choared round the most of the day was at Hoyts in evening came home between 8 & 9 & went to bed about 9 sick.”
