Civil War Diaries, September 30, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Sept. 30  Preparations were made early in the morning to start for Louisville.

Knapsacks were packed & the camp though in a hub-bub were in the best of spirits.

Pa & Mr. Buchanan came into camp & waited until we were located on the cars.  At half after four we were in motion for K.Y.  Slowly & easily we moved along while the rain poured down upon us and stretched out upon the car seats & floor were tired & weary soldiers awaiting the morning dawn.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

30th Tuesday  rather a cloudy damp day.  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about ½ past 8 got home at 9 & soon went to bed about 10 nearly sick, the 105 regiment left Chicago today at 5 P.M.  Said for Louisville, Frank came home on the stage.”
