Civil War Diaries, September 29, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Sept. 29  Ate an early breakfast.  Bade the family the long, final farewell.  Took the 7 oclock train for Chicago.

Draw a Haversack.  Went on dress parade at the evening.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

29th Monday  A cloudy damp morning had rained last night.  I did my choars was at the office all day & in came home between 8 & 9 & went to bed about 9 ½ tiard & nearly sick.  Wray started back for Chicago about half past eight to go on the 10 oclock trane, Frank went in on the stage to Chicago & stayed all night.  James Graves, Jerry Pollard, Ed Brown, Russeque & T Westcott went Chicago [in margin] Wm Wray went back to Chicago to the regiment.”
