Civil War Diaries, September 24, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Sept. 24  The morning was cool & damp.  Considerable of rain fell during the night.  Charley Cooper &  Mr. Buchanan came in & staid over night.

At evening the boys made an ovation & went to a neighboring house & carried away the Livery & burned it.  To avenge an abuse upon some of our officers’ wives. I was free from any implication in the affair.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

24th Wednesday  rather fine weather for the season some cloudy.  I did my choars was at the office the most of the day & evening came home by Hoyts about 8 and got home about 9 went to bed about 10 tiard & nearly sick.”
