Civil War Diaries, September 21, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Sept. 21  Sabbath morning found me still on duty at Camp Douglas.  Was relieved at 7 o’clock, returned to our Camp & went to sleep.

Attended Church in afternoon & evening.  Willis Theodore & Willie Hendrickson were here in the afternoon.  Went on dress parade at 5 oclock.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

21st Sunday  A fine pleasant day & evening.  I did my choars was around home the most of the day & evening, called at Hoyts & office in morning & Hoyts in evening came home before 9 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick.  Henry Wyman was here in the forenoon & at night again, Bet Billing, Griffeth Laura Waterman etc were here during day.”
