31st Tuesday  rather fine winter weather.  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 by way of Hoyts & C got home before 9 & went to bed some on lounge.”

30th Monday  rather a fine day of it for the season.  I did my choars was at the office all day & evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 on lounge sick.  Mrs Sprague came back in forenoon.”

Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 29, 1861

29th Sunday  A most beautiful pleasant day.  I did my choars was at Wrays about 9 & he went with me into my timber & got back about 11.  I choared round & fixed my meet etc wrote some called at the office in evening & Hoyts & Wrays came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 nearly sick.  Mrs. Bliss was over here 2 or 3 hours & talked of moving Sister over to her house, came over in evening & could not get sister to go to her house, Blisses Knox, his wife & a lot of children & youth were here.  I did not go away but went to bed about 9 on lounge had a bad night of it.”

24th Tuesday  rather a fine day & evening but more cold in afternoon.  I did my choars was at the office all day & in evening came home a little after seven & salted down the most of my port & went to bed between 9 & 10 sick.  C Noone y & W Wray killed my hoggs in middle of day.  Mrs. Sprague went home toward night.”

Hiram E. Leonard Diary, December 22, 1861

22nd Sunday  A snowey morning but wind nearly east an inch or two of snow on the ground, snowed all forenoon slowly and all day & evening I did my choars was at home the most of the day a choaring, writing etc was at the office & called at Hoyts & Wrays in evening came home about 8 & went to bed about 9 on lounge.”
