Civil War Diaries, November 7, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

“Nov. 7  It commenced to snow & sleet in the morning & continued so through the day.  One of the Sergeants went downtown & bought some cornmeal & sweet potatoes.  We ate pretty heartily of them, which did me no particular good.

I wrote Mother a letter & read 4 from DuPage.  I did not feel well through the day.”

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

7th Friday  A fine pleasant day.  I did my choars was at the store the most of the day & evening came home about 9 & went to bed about 10 nearly sick.  Jonathan Pollards wife was buryed today the funeral was at the Baptist house at 2 oclock the congregational minister preached, all out from Chicago.”
