Civil War Diaries, November 5, 1862

Ashley Carpenter Diary Entry:

Nov. 5  I felt some better after eating a little breakfast.  Some of the boys went down to a spring & washing themselves & clothes.  We changed our grounds & settled a mile north by the side of the R.R.  We had good supply of straw & slept well.  Some of the boys gathered walnuts that lay in abundance on the ground under the trees a short distance south.  We got plenty of straw & slept warmly.

Hiram Leonard Diary Entry:

5th Wednesday  rather cloudy & sprinkled a little in morning rather a fine day.  I did my choars was round the store the most of the day & evening came home about 9 by Hoyts & went to bed at 10 nearly sick, Wellman & Brown started in stage for Michigan, Mrs Jonathan Pollard died this morning between 8 & 9 this morning, Jerry P. went to Chicago, & Jerome came out.”
